How it started

As soon as it turned out I'm going to be a father I started looking for an aircooled VW which is more family friendly than my beetle. I'm not a Transporter-guy at all and always had a thing with estates, so I focused on 411/412s & Type 3 Variants or Squarebacks as they are called in the US. I realized I will not have any spare time for a project car anymore so the aim was finding something that I can drive and live with as is.

Took me a good 2 years to find an interesting car, and when I say interesting I mean the shape, the extras and, well, the color too...since it is hot P I N K.

This is how she was waiting me next to the dutch-german border in Germany.

It is a late model (long-nose) with the latest (2 vent holes in center) dash, also meaning in the thear it has the IRS suspension by default. She was overhauled in 2001 and I have to say the work is rather convincing. The previous owner put a lot of effort and money into it, and did a great job! All the lines are straight, everythnig is original and working. The car is super solid also from underneath due to the fact the floorpan has been hot-dip galvanized back than. Of course the color was shocking for first glance but taking in consideration it has been rebuilt in the early 2000s I can understand it as hot neon colors like that were ruling the '90s in the VW scene, most probably the p.o. has been in the hobby for a long time and always wanted a car like that. Also the interior is very nicely done in terms of quality a matches the car perfectly.

On the other hand I'm not a purist and always loved/owned modified cars thererfore I am super happy with all the features this car is having at the moment. I would have done the exact same ones if I had to build a car again from scratch. To be detailed in the next posts.
